Job description

We are looking for a creative, passionate and experienced designer to join our team on a 12 month fixed term contract. You will be responsible for the development of the core systems that work with the narrative layers in the game to create an exciting player journey. 

Responsibilities:

  • Help shape the narrative of multiple Games and create a framework to deliver compelling stories to the player.

  • Write and maintain design documentation that will serve as a reference to guide interdependent teams.

  • Build and mentor the wider narrative team and help integrate workflows with design and other departments.

  • Work with and manage writers to deliver high quality scripts and in game text.

  • Design player progression systems (equipment, behaviour tree etc) and any other progression system related to PVE and PVP narrative goals.  

  • Collaborate with the designers towards the game economy (type of resources, use, location, etc)

  • Balance and adapt your work based on technical and production constraints, play test results, and comments from cross-functional teams.

  • Be involved in broader design review to ensure narrative is being factored when gameplay scenarios or systems are being created. 

Job requirements

Required Experience:

  • Experience in design, economics, or related experience (live/online game development a huge plus)

  • Critical thinking, curiosity, attention to detail, resourcefulness, and plenty of flexibility

  • Ability to translate analytical findings into actionable recommendations

  • Excellent problem-solving, organisational, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills

  • An understanding of player motivation & a passion video games

  • Deep knowledge of Action RPG/ Single player Narrative / Open World AAA games

Important:

The interview process for the Narrative Designer role is made up of 3 stages:

  • First interview (45 – 60 minutes) – An interview to discuss your experience and working history relating to the position with members of our Design team and a People team member. In return, we will provide a full overview of the role, life at the studio as well as answer any questions you may have.

  • Second Interview (30 minutes) - An interview with our Studio Creative Director to discuss your experience, ways of working and the position on offer.

  • Final interview (30 minutes) – A final Interview with our Studio Head and Studio Production Director. This will be a chance for you to get to know the Senior Management team and all the things that make Lucid, Lucid! You will have a lot of opportunities to ask any questions about the studio and Culture.
